Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, station code: DDU, MGS (former)), is a railway station in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the fourth busiest railway junction in India. The station contains the largest railway marshaling yard in Asia. Mughalsarai yard cater to around 450-500 trains in a month.
Mughalsarai is a city and a municipal board in Chandauli district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Located around 10 km from Varanasi, it is an important railway junction of the Indian Railways. Once, it enjoyed the position of the largest railway marshalling yard of Asia. The Grand Chord section, which starts from Asansol, West Bengal, terminates at Mughalsarai.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister of India during 1964-1965, was born in Mughalsarai.

Over the years the city has been subjected to severe electricity shortage owing allegedly to inefficiency and corruption prevalent in the electricity department of the city.Railways

Mughalsarai is most famous for its railway yard and its railway colonies. There are about 16 railway colonies. Mughalsarai Railway Division belongs to East Central Railway (ECR) Zone of the Indian Railway. About 125+ passenger trains pass from Mughalsarai Junction. The Divisional Rail Manager (DRM) office of Mughalsarai Division is situated here. At Mughalsarai Junction, two Most important railway lines meet 1) Main Line (Delhi-Allahabad-Patna-Gaya-Howrah) and 2) Chord line (Delhi-Lucknow-Varanasi-Gaya-Howrah).

Varanasi City is 16 KM from Mughalsarai Railway Station via GT Road. The Malviya bridge in Kashi (Varanasi) is situated between Mughalsarai and Varanasi on the river Ganga. Yard of Mughalsarai Railway Junction is longest Railway freight yard in India and 2nd longest in Asia. Located on National Highway 2, Mughal Sarai in Chandauli District houses one of the prominent railway stations of Uttar Pradesh. It is around 16 km south-east of Varanasi.
‘Sarai’ is a Persian word meaning 'inn.' Literally Mughal Sarai means the 'Inn of Mughals’ and it was the halting place for the Mughal caravans.

Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary (55 km) is the nearby attraction.

Chandauli is around 10 km east. Nearest airport is Varanasi Airport. Mughal Sarai Junction Railway Station is managed by the East Central Railways.
